Aptum is a design studio for lighting. We work with clients, interior designers and architects, art directors and experts from other fields. We offer a complete service in the design, manufacture and installation of custom-made lighting in unlimited configurations for the residential, hospitality and commercial sector. The light installations can vary in terms of expression from colorful and chaotic to sober and geometric and stir a sense of wonder, excitement and magic.
Aptum provides three different types of services:
Custom collection. Aptum presents a portfolio of lighting systems that are highly adaptable. Every installation is different in appearance, size, color and more. Being an interior designer or architect you are able to design yourself within the boundaries of our systems, and let us know what you want. You can also have Aptum make a proposal for the space.
Aptum also supplies a basic collection based on the custom collection. Smaller, powerful models that offer you craftsmanship with shorter delivery times.
Rather éverything unique? Aptum offers a bespoke design service based on the assignment and customer’s wishes. This can be extravagant permanent light installations in public places or temporary light experiences for events.
Aptum is lighting for spaces, just like a tailored suit is for your body. For each location, we match materials, colors, sizes and complexity: it always fits!
And in case you’re wondering: Aptum means adaptable.
That’s right! The lighting systems are well-known designs from the portfolio of Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink, who together design interior products since 2008 under the name ONTWERPDUO – an established name in Dutch Design. With Ontwerpduo they developed a great passion for lighting, and many years of experience with production and installation all over the world. The fervent wish to make more specialized work came true with the launch of APTUM, October 2019. The two lighting systems Light Forest and Contour were designed in the Ontwerpduo years, and further developed under the name Aptum.
We started working with professionals from other disciplines to create and present new work together. The aim of these collaborations is to stimulate the imagination and let creativity flow, with often unexpected and aesthetically pleasing results. We present these designs at the APTUM X collection.
Our team comes exclusively from a design background, and includes members who each are specialized in their own direction. Our team also works together with technicians, engineers and programmers from the region.
Our core team consists of:
Tineke Beunders (founder, owner), the creative spindle of the company, is a conceptual thinker, dreamer, storyteller, visualizer. She creates the initial concepts, designs and drawings. She visits the clients and locations we design lighting for.
Nathan Wierink (founder, owner) is the whizzkid of the team, translating fairy-tale ideas into functional products. He is a maker, and at his happiest when things are just a little too busy. On location during a lighting installation, he solves every detail.
Elke van den Hoogen is the project manager. She is a master at planning and creating overview in chaos, doing research, and working out the concepts and graphics.
Laurentius de Ruiter is the team’s product developer, he does not do tricks with a magic wand but with machines in the workshop. He invents clever production techniques and works out product details. Laurentius never stops improving designs.
Aptum is based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. In the centre, in an old and monumental building, the first power station of the city. We translated the building into our design studio, lighting workshop and home. Eindhoven is known as the city of light and considered to be the smartest region of the world. The city is the home of companies such as ASML, Philips, VDL and the High Tech Campus. In addition to this, the biggest Design Event of north Europe ‘Dutch Design Week’ takes place in Eindhoven every year in October. All in all, Eindhoven is a wonderful place to work from – and worth a visit.
